SEHNSUCHT MENSCH
Drawings by Tilla von Gravenreuth & oil paintings by Thomas Sing
Ecke Galerie Augsburg | 28 March – 17 May 2025

This spring, the Künstlervereinigung Augsburg „Die Ecke“ e.V. is presenting an exciting juxtaposition of two
positions that at first glance appear to be very different. On the one hand, the late graphic work of Tilla von
Gravenreuth, which is strongly influenced by her personal exchange with Oskar Schlemmer and the Bauhaus
environment of the 1920s, and on the other, the most recent oil paintings of Thomas Sing, who draws his inspiration primarily from literature and philosophy.

The internationally active curatorial duo Elisabetta Bresciani and Chiara Padovan ventured this unusual encounter.
The resulting dialogue tells of a deep longing for the essence of our reality. Whether in the delicate
lines of small-format watercolours or in the dense brushstrokes of large-format oil paintings, all the works
on display revolve around the human being: both the inner and the other. The artists know from their own
experience of the connection between body and mind, and that the physical and the metaphysical are not
mutually exclusive, but always flow into each other. This blurring of boundaries is the path they explore by
creating a connection with their subjects that ultimately extends to the audience.

It is about curiosity and the courage to engage with something that does not naturally belong together and
yet ultimately opens up the possibility of a new, intimate connection.
